Alana was born Angela Alana Tyson, named after the civil rights leader Angela Davis.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY and enjoyed growing up in a big city.
Alana competed in Track & Field as a sprinter in HS, and qualified for the Penn Relays four years in a row.
Alana learned how to read at the age of three.
She earned her Bachelor of Science Cum Laude from Brooklyn College and Master of Arts in Journalism, from University of Maryland.
Alana's first children's book manuscript received close to 100 rejections from Agents & Publishers.
Alana lives in Alexandria, VA with her husband and two sons.
Before becoming a published author, Alana was a Freelance Journalist for a newspaper in NYC.
Her favorite things to do are karaoke, skiing, and traveling.
Alana's favorite place to write and get inspired is her local library.
When not writing you'll find her on the beach in Mexico's Riviera Maya.

My writing space during a Highlights® retreat. Writing takes lots of time & patience. I enjoy writing in silence or while listening to acoustic hip-hop or smooth jazz. My writing space is often very neat, and will always include coffee or water nearby.
